One {October 2015}

As I was told this morning, October is GREAT because it has two fun things. Halloween and his birthday. My "One" shot this month features the birthday boy on his big day, plus a bonus shot of my little family because I love it so much.

Please head over to Georgia to see a beautiful image by my talented friend Kim Lane - we're so excited to have her back in action after a bit of a hiatus!

One {September 2015}

Ye ol' camera has been taking a bit of a rest this month but we still made it out for a shot or two. I may have taken more universally intriguing images, but the One Circle always forces me to go with my heart. I'm also fairly certain that if you ever wanted a big brother, you wanted one just like this.

In fact, I asked him this evening if he remembered what it was like before she was born. He told me: "yes, but it wasn't as fun because she wasn't here to play with me." Fairly solid 180 from "When the baby comes, can I flush her down the toilet?"

Head out to Washington to visit my incredible friend Krista, then continue around our little circle to see what else caught our eye this week!

One {August 2015}

I have some faux woes for my One shot this month - an abundance of personal pictures that I adore. So how to pick just one? It helps that my summer project will bring more of them to light, but this shot below steals my heart. It isn't a masterpiece, but it was taken on a "Critter Walk" with grandpa this past weekend. Big brother invited little sis to join in on his special time with Pa...she may as well have been brought up to the big leagues. Our littlest one is deep into the incredible transition from small baby to giant personality and watching the kids' relationship blossom this summer as a result of her growth has been a highlight of my life. They adore each other, and occasionally torment each other, but I hope with all of my heart that this foundation of sweetness and love will carry with them throughout their lives. There's really nothing like a great sibling - I should know, I have two!

Please continue on to Chicago where you might see some more sibling love, or perhaps the glorious shores of Michigan in the summer...in any case, it will come from the mind and heart of the always creative and talented Jessica Remus.

One {June 2015}

This little one has been featured a little heavily in the One rotation recently, but I can't help but go with this shot. It isn't technically fabulous, but there is something irresistible about such a glorious mess. Nothing gets between our exceedingly independent baby and her object of desire.

Please head out to Washington to see what the amazing Krista has found this month, and while you're at it, congratulate her on that shiny new Masters degree she just earned! A woman of many talents, indeed.

One {May 2015}

Incredibly, this month's one post is already here. What can I say, I like stripes. Please continue on to the Pacific Northwest to see what my amazing friend Krista has found this month.

One {April 2015}

This month's One Circle post is celebratory, for when it goes live, we will all be in the same city, in the same house, enjoying one another's company. And likely drinking some wine.

As is wont to happen with good friends, I expect it will start off something like this:

Then begin to go a little like this:

Until we reach this:

And end the night with a bonus Still Life With Iguana, as you do. Cheers, friends! Next up, come see what our hostess Jessica has discovered this month.

One: March 2015

One for March - it's a kid post, but how could it not be? A certain someone turned one year old this month! Happy birthday to our sweet baby.

Please head over to Krista and see what captured her heart in Washington State this month, then visit the rest of our small circle.

One: February 2015

Farewell, February! May you and your icy grip be but a distant memory soon. We headed out West to go skiing this month, and it turns out we fled a brutal bout of Eastern cold and snow while we were at it. Whistler, B.C. is stunningly beautiful, though a little lacking in the white stuff this season - just enough for our little guy to go to ski school and learn some moves. My skills on the slopes are mediocre, so I took an old film camera up the mountain to avoid risking any significant gear. Thankfully, the limbs came down mostly intact as well. My photography efforts were mediocre (note to self, do not accidentally grab slide film without noticing) but I'm happy to have these memories anyway.

Please head over to equally arctic Chicago and see what Jessica has been up to this month. Congratulate her, too, on her feature over at I Heart Faces, coming in March!

One: January 2015

Our first One post of 2015 is up! A favorite of the month - one for fun, one for the heart, one to share. Mine is an outtake from my adventures in the snow. Experimentation gone awry or a little winter wonderland magic?

Please take a spin around our small circle and see what my talented companions have settled on this week, starting with my favorite expat Adele, down in Texas.

One {December 2014}

2014 has been a year of whiplash - incredible joys and shocking lows, all rolled into a twelve month period. I am excited to ring in 2015 in less dramatic fashion, though I do have high expectations from a photography standpoint.

After taking an informal step back these past few months, I am leaping into the new year with a gallery show, an exciting return to a challenging 52 week collaborative project (more on that soon) and a renewed desire to get behind the camera to document more than my personal world. You may notice a bit of a facelift on the site itself - a work in progress, but the sleek new look is the work of Nick Norwood. He's a talent and a pleasure to work with.

As always, I am grateful for the love and friendship of my amazing "One" circle participants, as they offer support on matters ranging from the camera to the heart and everything in between. And speaking of the heart, it was this perfect moment between my son and my sister - imperfectly captured in a dark restaurant earlier in the month - that stole mine for this post.

Please head out to Washington to see how my dear friend Krista is closing out the year and continue around our small circle. Wishing you a happy and wonderful New Year!

One {November}

As this month draws to a close, I am taking a long grateful moment to hold the ones I love a little closer to my heart. Which, yes, means babies on the blog.

And speaking of loved ones, please pay a visit to my beloved friends as we take one more step towards closing out our One Circle this year, starting with the amazingly talented Jessica Remus in Chicago.

One {October 2014}

We've had Something Wicked This Way Comes weather these past few days, but overall it has been an unseasonably warm October. Someone turned five in our house, and we've seen lots of kids and pumpkins and costumes and fun family moments. And yet, I did manage to sneak out for some time on my own here and there. My one shot this month is of a dear friend as we headed home past curfew one night. While we aren't riding the carousel backwards, we can still be young at heart.

Please hop over to my most incredible friend, Sarah Zalan. She's been quiet this month so I can't wait to see what she's got up her sleeve.

One {September 2014}

Incredible to think that September has already blown by, but here we are. I had a lot of "one" moments this month - a small boy who started kindergarten and learned to ride a bike on his own, a sweet baby who started eating "solid" food and sitting up,  a little time with loved ones in a beautiful place far from home, a return to the working world and all the surrounding logistics, some fun time with family as my father kicked off his retirement...September has been full.

However, I do not have a single image that encapsulates all of those things, and so I'm choosing something else entirely for my One shot. I don't even know if I like this image very much, but I keep coming back to it. I was playing around with shutter speed when out near an abandoned pier on the west side and created some "ghosts." It seemed oddly appropriate, since not far from this spot is where the RMS Carpathia docked after rescuing survivors from the shipwrecked Titanic.

Please head out to Colorado and see what my beautiful friend Sarah Zalan has seen in her journeys this month, then continue around our small circle!

One {August 2014}

Summer is coming to a close but not without a last hurrah family vacation. This isn't the loveliest or most sentimental shot from the holiday trove, but my wonderful siblings amuse me always and today was no exception. Please head over to my dear friend Sarah's page to see what captured her heart this month!

One {July}

This month I have photographed spectacular mountain tops, sparkling hot springs, ancient geysers, and wild bison, yet this everyday image is the one that stole my heart. Please take a peek at the "one" shot my dear friends chose to share this month, starting with the amazingly talented Jessica Remus in Chicago.

One {June 2014}

June! And just like that, we are halfway through the year. This month meant the beginning of summer, the end of pre-school for my small guy and a long-awaited visit from the amazing women of this One circle!

I have to admit, I had more fun watching them take in the city than trying to document it myself, but I did get a shot or two. I liked this one - not because it features any of my special people, but because it is of one man, finding an audience for his art.

Please head out to Colorado to see what my incredible friend Sarah has captured this month and continue around our little circle!

One {May 2014}

I am ready to say goodbye to May. It should have been a beautiful month, but unexpected storms blew in.

Please continue around the circle to see the one shot that spoke to my dear friends this month, starting with Jessica Remus.

One {April 2014}

So far, 2014 has proven to be an action-packed year for all of us in the One circle. Babies, weddings, school, big moves...we are not resting on our laurels. As April comes to a close, I know I'm not the only one who is struggling to find time behind the camera, but find time we do - if only for the most important things. Like a one-month "birthday"!

Please take a moment to pop around our small circle and see what my other amazing friends have found noteworthy this month, starting with the wonderfully talented Sarah. She has been in the throes of hosting a wedding, so perhaps we'll see some of the fun chaos, or maybe a peaceful moment in between...

One {March 2014}

March was a big month, and this time around I can't help but break the One shot rule. It's our first month as a family of four and I just can't bring myself to leave either kid out. The big guy is climbing the walls while the little lady is just starting to wake up.

Please take a spin around our One circle to see what has touched the hearts of my dear friends this month, starting with Jessica Remus, who deserves much respect after riding out a rough Chicago winter.
