Capture the Moment

I am very excited to have contributed two images to a new photography book called Capture the Moment, by Clickin Moms CEO Sarah Wilkerson. The pages are filled with beautiful photography and I am proud to be a part of this project.

One of my shots features a certain someone who was excited to find his face in this book. A little older and onto a second hat, but those eyes haven't changed a bit.

The best part is, not only is the book a beautiful teaching tool, but 100% of the proceeds go to Ronald McDonald House. Available on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble. Go check it out!

Photo 52.2: Framed {Week 50}

It is a little sad and daunting to come to the end of a long-term project. As I nearly cross the finish line for our second 52 week collaboration, I find myself with much to think about, both in life and photography (and where the two meet). And so, our theme for week 50 struck me as particularly relevant because I am feeling very out of focus at the moment.

Intentionally out of focus imagery can be beautiful and I do have a few scattered throughout my portfolio. I love the soft ambiance and anonymity they evoke. However, shooting out of focus images is not truly my style, so in an effort to shake off all that has been clouding over my brain these past few months, I used a beautiful sunset at the Great Salt Lake this weekend to create a sense of softness but with some identifiable focal plane. All of my mumblings aside, at the very least, who doesn't enjoy a beautiful sunset?

Last Call

For those who have been following along on Facebook and elsewhere, I have written a mini-class for Clickin Moms on the topic of street photography. ​ I am pleased to say it has received some great reviews and it is exciting for me that so many people are interested in my approach to photography. Tomorrow will be the last day to buy it with access to conversations participants are having in the live forum and at the live forum price. If you miss it this time around, the original materials as well as the Q&A video and editing video will also be available in the CM store soon. 

Mr. X

My life is far from lonely, but I am a person who craves solitude. Somewhat ironically, I also dislike crowds. There is something about New York though - you can join in the fray or simply stand a little apart, alone in the midst of chaos.

I should note that all of these images were actually taken in very good company - this past weekend Justine and I co-led a photography ​walk around Manhattan for Clickin Moms.  A wonderful time (we hope) was had by all!

Onward and Upward

I had the great honor of being asked to write an article on street photography by the ladies over at Clickin Moms recently. After taking a parent-focused photography course with a local photographer last fall that ignited this whole obsession, I was directed to the classes at Clickin Moms as a great place to up my game technically. To now be at a point where they view my voice as one they wish to add to their public image is incredibly rewarding.  

​I have met some beautiful photographers, but more importantly, some beautiful people, on this journey. The support, generosity and friendship from individuals who are equally as focused on improving their skills and creating something that speaks to them has been an unexpected treasure. Stay tuned, because I will be participating in a weekly blog project with several of these wonderful ladies starting on Monday and you will be able to link to each of their sites from here. Different visions, one theme - I can't wait to see what comes of it.
